Book & Lyrics by Laurence Holzman & Felicia Needleman
Music by Larry Applewhite
This romantic musical comedy, based on the 1942 René Clair film, tells the story of a witch burned at the stake in the Salem witch trials, who returns to present-day Massachusetts to take revenge on the descendant of the man who had accused her--a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming election--but finds herself inexplicably smitten by him. The show was developed in the BMI-Lehman Engel Musical theatre Workshop and later selected for presentation in the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, where it earned Laurence and Felicia the first ever ASCAP Sammy Cahn Award for Outstanding Lyricists.
